Get Your Rear in Gear - Charlotte
Honoring Our Rear Warriors: Reflections from Charlotte
Today was a beautiful day. I had the privilege of attending Get Your Rear in Gear – Charlotte, and my heart is full. These kinds of events always bring up a swirl of emotions—joy, sorrow, pride, resilience—and today was no different.
I met so many kind, open-hearted people—fellow survivors, loved ones, caregivers, and advocates. There’s something powerful about being in a space where people get it—not just the medical side of cancer, but the emotional, spiritual, and human journey that comes with it.
As I walked, talked, and laughed with strangers who quickly felt like friends, I was reminded again of the strength of this community. We may come from different places and different paths, but we share something sacred. We’ve all looked fear in the face. We’ve all had to rebuild—sometimes our bodies, sometimes our spirits. And we’re all still here.
I carried with me today the memory of those we've lost, the stories still unfolding, and the hope that continues to rise, even in the hardest moments.
I also found myself reflecting on the work so many of us are doing to support one another. Whether it’s through foundations, personal conversations, art, advocacy, or simply showing up—we're helping each other heal in quiet, powerful ways. I had the opportunity to share a bit about The After Cancer and Lee Lees Life Lessons, Inc., and I felt deeply grateful for how the conversations opened up so naturally.
I’m also learning—growing into—how to build, grow, and honor the essence of Let Us Play – Thriving With & Beyond Cancer™ in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. Today reminded me that this work, at its core, is not about programs or presentations. It’s about people. It’s about presence. It’s about showing up for each other with compassion, humor, and honesty.
To everyone I met today: thank you. Thank you for your warmth, your courage, your stories. And to those walking this path quietly, behind the scenes—you are seen. You are never alone.
With love and deep respect,
💜 Lisa
